A new diet will keep you from the results you really want.
A woman said to me the other day, “I am struggling to manage my acid reflux without medication, I can be really disciplined if I have the right plan.”
When I asked what she had already tried, she said that she was using an eating protocol that worked for a while, but her symptoms were back and she was looking for a new plan.
I asked what had changed since she started the helpful protocol.
“Well I guess I started cheating a little bit. I really missed having ice cream.”
I totally understand why she thought her success was about finding the right eating plan. That is the resounding message we get from the health & fitness industry.
But, what is really going on here?! Is the eating plan really the issue?
Or is it the fact that we get sick of restriction and following someone else’s food rules?!
Let me ask you this…
If you were invited over to a friend’s house for a get-together, but they had tons of restrictions like:
- you have to leave your cell phones in your car
- you can’t wear your shoes beyond the front door
- you must say “mother may I” at the beginning of each sentence
- you must do 5 pushups before going through each door
How long would you want to hang out at that friend’s house?
So if you wouldn’t want to endure those restrictions for an evening, why would you restrict something so personal and important like the way you eat?
You might be thinking – if it isn’t finding the right diet, then what is the solution?!
The solution is tapping into your body’s wisdom. You can use the feedback that your body is giving you to help you make food choices that support you feeling your best.
It starts with deconstructing diet mentality and creating a new relationship with your body grounded in awareness, trust and respect.
Do you want to find a new restrictive diet or would you rather create a connection with yourself and your body that you can count on now and into the future?
